House Committee on Veterans' Affairs Advances 18 Bills to Support Veterans

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs held a business meeting to welcome new Committee member Rep. Connie Conway (R-Calif.) and authorize the Women Veterans Task Force, and a full committee markup advancing 18 bills to strengthen healthcare and benefits for America’s veterans. These bills will enhance VA's ability to deliver high-quality and timely healthcare and benefits to America's veterans by expanding support for homeless veterans, improving efficiency in benefits payments, providing greater coverage for emergency care, improving VA's recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals, ensuring VA is better equipped to meet the needs of the LGBTQ+ veterans, ensuring VA education benefits are distributed equitably to those previously ineligible based on discharge status, making VA home loan benefits more competitive, making permanent veterans protections during times of emergency, and increasing cost of living adjustments to disability compensation benefits.

“The bills on today’s agenda help the Committee make good on its commitment to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment at VA — one that meets the unique needs of all veterans,” said Chairman Takano. “From strengthening housing programs to modernizing how veterans receive their benefits, the 18 bills the Committee advanced today will empower VA to support veterans’ ability to lead a life of meaning and purpose after they hang up their uniforms. The vote to authorize the Women Veterans Task Force for the 117th Congress will allow the Committee to continue to do close engagement on issues impacting the growing number of women veterans. I also want to extend a warm welcome to fellow Californian Representative Connie Conway to the Committee and we hope to work closely with her on the Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee.”
